Clara Rockmore's 100th Birthday

Today is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Clara Rockmore (1911-1998), first and (I believe) best virtuoso of the theremin.

She combined prodigious technique with a deeply felt performance presence that was as compelling at the end of her life as it was when she first established her reputation.

I love her right-hand accuracy and vibrato.. and the sheer confidence and calm that pervades her every gesture... dig:
