We hit
the road with just our packs
We hit the city and it hit right back
And this is where we fell
To the bottom of the wishing well
Trying to fix this broken spell
That someone cast aside on Aurora Avenue
And these walls are loose and thin and skin
And the world outside keeps reaching in
The lights flash through the shade
We can hear love trying to be made
And prayers being prayed
From the other side
And the wind sings us to sleep
The same wind that the trees will whisper
All their troubles to
The same wind is blowing right on through
Aurora Avenue
And the hookers harvest what they can
Of the pride and shame in every man
They laugh and go hello
Like they know something we don't know
Like their loneliness don't show
But it covers this whole side of Aurora Avenue
And the moon follows us home
The same moon that shines for kings and queens
And lovers false and true
The same moon sees everything we do
On Aurora Avenue
I punch in and I punch out
It's nothing to write home about
It's nothing like we dreamed so long ago
And the dreams we had go driving by
Our gleam in someone else's eye
They don't even wave good-bye
They don't even know
But the stars know what we wish
The same stars, the only stars
That anybody ever knew
The same stars shine just for me and you
On Aurora Avenue
