Death was the
life of the party
Nobody saw him arrive
But suddenly there was a feeling
He made the whole room come alive
The air so sweet to be breathing
Our feet so firm on the floor
The faces around us so open
Wondering what was in store
Death was the life
Death was the life of the party
Last night
Death was the life of the party
He seemed to know everyone's name
We all felt that somehow we knew him
But none of us knew him the same
He was speaking and yet he was silent
He was moving and yet he was still
He was smiling and yet there was sadness
Forever longing, forever fulfilled
Death was the life
Death was the life of the party
Last night
Death was the life of the party
He sat and we circled around
Our eyes and our ears were upon him
We waited not making a sound
Then from somewhere down deep inside him
Came a murmur, a mutter, a moan
It came sobbing and throbbing and swelling
It rumbled and rattled our bones
Then he burst out in glorious laughter
And howled at the top of his lungs
And poured out his poems and stories
His prayers and riddles and songs
Every wail and every whisper
Every crashing wave of his words
Was like hearing ourselves in a mirror
And we wanted to hold what we heard
But already the image was fading
And when we opened our eyes
he was gone
When we looked, what we saw was each other
We were all that remained of his song
Death was the life
Death was the life
Death was the life of the party
Last night
